Swansea boss praises Regis Le Bris and ‘really good’ Sunderland as he issues ‘very tough’ prediction

Sunderland have been handed praise ahead of their upcoming clash with Swansea City.

The Black Cats are gearing up for an away trip to Swansea City, where they will hope to improve on a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light against Bristol City.

Sunderland have not quite been up to scratch on their travels recently, managing three draws and a defeat in their previous four, and they will have to improve on that form without the capabilities of Tommy Watson down the left-flank, who is set for a spell on the sidelines due to injury.

However, this hasn’t quite sparked confidence in Swansea City boss Luke Williams, who still believes that they are in for a ‘tough test’ as they gear up to host the Black Cats, who currently sit 4th in the Championship table.

Swansea City boss Luke Williams hails Sunderland ahead of clash

Not many would have expected to see Sunderland in the higher echelons of the Championship table at this stage of the 2024/25 Championship campaign, although they have managed to somewhat tail off in recent weeks.

Despite the shaky form of Regis Le Bris’ side, there hasn’t been any further confidence sparked in Swansea City’s boss, who said in his pre-match press conference: “Yeah possibly [have lost a bit of momentum], but they are still a really good team.

“It’s not like they’ve dropped off the edge of a cliff, they’re still performing very well, playing very well, there’s a lot of belief in the way that they’re playing and they’re gonna be a very good side throughout the entire campaign, so we’re in for a very tough test.”

Swansea City on the other hand find themselves in the midst of a decent run, having picked up eight points in their previous four.

Regis Le Bris must find alternative attacking output to make it a ‘tough test’ for Swansea City

Sunderland will certainly suffer without the threat that Watson has put on display in recent weeks, and it is evident that it isn’t obvious who Le Bris should turn towards in order to fill that gap.

Mundle also finds himself injured, which means that it is likely that either Eliezer Mayenda or Aaron Connolly will find themselves in-the starting 11. It will take a lot for either of the two to shine up to the levels of Watson, and it is an area that Le Bris must prioritise, with Swansea not having kept a single clean sheet in their previous seven games.

Wilson Isidor has also not been at the height of his powers in recent weeks, and he must really prove that he has enough quality to tie down his spot in the side, especially with the January transfer window looming.
