The January transfer window could be a very positive time for Sunderland, but there are fears a number of their top players could move on, too.
Sunderland are flying high this season, and with one or two new signings, the Black Cats could mount a genuinely successful promotion push.
Regis Le Bris has built an exciting and effective young squad already, but Sunderland fans want a new striker to be signed to bolster their ranks in January.
However, with the likes of Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham continuing to attract attention from elsewhere, Sunderland may be more concerned about keeping players rather than adding new ones.

Bournemouth cannot recall Chris Mepham from his loan spell
Now, according to information from the Sunderland Echo, the Mackems can at least rest easy knowing that Chris Mepham will not be leaving the club in the New Year.
Mepham is on loan from Bournemouth until the end of the season, and there is reportedly no clause in his agreement that would allow the Premier League outfit to recall the defender early.
It is said a separate agreement would need to be reached to change that situation, something Sunderland would have to sign off on.
All things considered, then, it would appear Mepham will be sticking around until the end of the campaign at least.

Chris Mepham loves being at Sunderland, feels connection to fans
Mepham’s contract at Bournemouth comes to an end in June, but it is believed the Cherries do have the option to extend his deal by another year.
Sunderland will certainly be hoping that doesn’t happen, as Mepham has become a ‘very important’ player for the Black Cats this season, and the club will surely want to sign him permanently.
Mepham has spoken of the connection he feels with the Sunderland fans and insisted he wants to help the club get back to the Premier League where it belongs.
If Sunderland can get promotion this season, it would be highly likely that Mepham would be rewarded with a longer stay at the Stadium of Light.
