Sunderland could face a stumbling block if they decide to pursue Danny Rohl this summer.
Sunderland are still scouring the world for their next manager, with Mike Dodds set to take a step back at the end of the season.
The 37-year-old has endured a really tough spell as interim boss since taking over from Michael Beale, with the Black Cats managing only one win during his tenure.
The club had given themselves months to find an appropriate replacement and Danny Rohl is one name that has been heavily reported recently.
The German coach joined Sheffield Wednesday in October and has taken the to within a point of safety at the bottom of the Championship table.
It seems very likely that Rohl will leave Hillsborough if they are relegated, while his future could still be in doubt even if he keeps them up.
Sunderland face stumbling block in Rohl pursuit
The 34-year-old could be the ideal appointment for Sunderland, however they face some stumbling blocks in bringing him to the Stadium of Light.
Speaking on his Patreon, journalist Alan Nixon said: “Sunderland are also considering Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl but that would need a big transfer fee.

“Rohl would also want his own staff. This issue handicapped Michael Beale who joined alone but wanted his own people eventually but was sacked quickly.”
Should Sunderland still go for it?
Sunderland are at a point now where they can’t afford to pull out of races for a manager due to the money required.
Kristjaan Speakman needs to get the next appointment bang on, and if that means splashing a bit of cash that could potentially see a manager like Danny Rohl take us back to the Premier League, then so be it.
Will Still will surely be the same situation in that Kryil Louis-Dreyfus will have to open up his cheque book, while Paul Heckingbottom is surely the only one of interest that wouldn’t actually cost a penny.
I don’t think Heckingbottom would be a bad appointment either, but I wouldn’t want us to bring him in just because we are absolute cheapskates.
Rohl would be a brilliant addition to the club and has so much potential as a manager. If he was interested in joining Sunderland then we should give him what he wants, as I don’t feel like we are particularly in a position of power given our rapid decline.
