Sunderland have been told they will have ‘frustrated’ Tony Mowbray following rumours of their latest transfer target.

Sunderland brought in five strikers during Tony Mowbray‘s time at the club – none of whom had made a single appearance in the Championship prior.

Bar Nazariy Rusyn, the Black Cats had looked to youth when bolstering their attack – a method that hasn’t proven successful as of yet. Mowbray wasn’t too happy with this transfer policy either and had previously urged the club to bring in more experience.

Sunderland initially ignored his demands before he was eventually sacked, however it now looks like they may be taking a piece of his advice.

Recent reports have claimed that the Championship outfit have held ‘preliminary talks’ with Bournemouth’s Kieffer Moore, who is available on loan this month.

The 31-year-old has netted 47 goals in 155 appearances in the Championship, and is quite the opposite of what Sunderland have been looking at since they won promotion in 2022.

Carlton Palmer has now claimed that he thinks the club’s recent pursuit will have ‘frustrated’ Mowbray, who has just been appointed manager of Birmingham City.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Tony Mowbray will be frustrated and disappointed at hearing the news, as he maintained to the board that Sunderland needed a balance of youth and experience in their signings.

“Sunderland need goals at the top end of the pitch, they signed a bunch of young strikers in the summer but they’ve failed to match up to their billing at present. Given Moore’s age, this would likely be a loan move, and he’s similar in stature to Ross Stewart who left the club, as he’s tall, mobile, good in both boxes, and the supporters would take to him immediately.”

Is it too little too late for Sunderland?

if I was Tony Mowbray, I would be very disappointed with Sunderland.

The former Black Cats boss did a brilliant job with a very young squad and things could have played out very differently if he was given a second crack at promotion with a proven goalscorer in his ranks.

But Mowbray was forced to make do with what was at his disposal, while it looks to have only taken a matter of months for Michael Beale to be handed exactly what he had wanted the whole time.

It is not guaranteed that Sunderland will sign Kieffer Moore, but it is incredibly frustrating for everyone that this kind of signing wasn’t made six months earlier.
