Sunderland have confirmed that Patrick Roberts will be out of action for their Championship match against Coventry City.
The club shared a statement on Thursday morning, revealing that the winger will be out until after the international break with a hamstring injury.
Roberts has been key to Sunderland’s attack since joining the club last year, netting five goals and providing five assists upon their return to the Championship.

Despite a tough start to the new campaign, the 26-year-old has posed an attacking threat to opposition and remains an important part of Tony Mowbray’s plans.
The forward limped off towards the end of the Black Cats’ 2-1 win over Rotherham United at the weekend and it has now been confirmed that he will be sidelined for another three weeks.
The club statement read: ‘Sunderland AFC confirms that Patrick Roberts has sustained a minor hamstring strain. Following a period of rehabilitation, Roberts is expected to return to action following the September international break.’
Who will replace Patrick Roberts against Coventry City?
Sunderland have been struggling with an extensive injury list all year, with the likes of Ross Stewart, Elliot Embleton and Corry Evans all still on the treatment table.
Patrick Roberts’ absence is arguably more of an issue for the Black Cats, with the team often relying on Roberts and Clarke to create chances and score goals.

There is a lack of high quality wingers at the club behind the pair and Mowbray could opt to play someone out of position – such as Alex Pritchard or Bradley Dack. Roberts’ injury may also offer Luis Hemir Semedo a second chance up top.
Roberts’ exclusion will make his importance very clear, with the club desperate to keep hold of him after he was linked with a move to Celtic this summer.
