One Sunderland star was on top form in the … vs Sheffield United.
Sunderland lost 1-0 to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane, with Tom Davies getting the goal for the Blades.
Initially, there were plenty of questions raised in regards to the starting line-up, in particular the front line, with one name particularly standing out.
One player that was far from guaranteed to start for the Black Cats was Tommy Watson, who had previously put on a shaky performance in the 0-0 home draw against West Brom.
The Black Cats winger was set for a lot of pressure in delivering a top performance, but there is no doubt that he succeeded in doing that.

The Black Cats winger was on top form against Sheffield United, notably drawing in the foul that led to a penalty for Sunderland, only for Patrick Roberts’ effort to be saved .
The showing by the 18-year-old winger took many fans by surprise, including one that suggested that he was the ‘best player on the pitch by a country mile’.
Others suggested that ‘Tommy Watson was having the game of his life’, whilst another pin-pointed the fact that he was ‘speedy, agile and very skilled with the ball at his feet.’
Another fan referred to Watson as a ‘Jack Clarke regen’ for Sunderland, whilst another believed it was a window into the future of the English winger, with the Black Cats set to ‘have a hell of a player on their hands by this time next year.’

There is no doubt that the future is incredibly bright for Watson, and he simply showcased that for the Black Cats against Sheffield United.
If he can keep that consistency, then it will be much less guaranteed that Romaine Mundle will waltz back into the side once he returns from injury, something that is an ode to Regis Le Bris’ terrific ability to get the very best out of the youngsters at the club, as he has also displayed with the likes of Chris Rigg and Jobe Bellingham.
