Tony Mowbray watched his Sunderland side lose yet again on Wednesday, and now reports suggest he is under pressure.

Sunderland came into this season full of hope and confidence with a talented squad brimming with talent. However, for one reason or another Tony Mowbray‘s side have began to falter with three losses in their last six.

Currently sitting 11th in the league after a 2-1 defeat at home to Huddersfield, reliable sources have began to suggest Mowbray will be under pressure.

With Sunderland believed to not be afraid of making a change, Mowbray needs to find something new and change up his style in order to save his job.

According to Michael Graham that is, who suggests that while Mowbray is a favourite at the club, pressure is building.

Sunderland stance on Mowbray

Following defeat to Huddersfield, Graham gave an update on the current situation around Mowbray and Sunderland’s stance on his future.

“The info I’ve been given is that [Kristjaan] Speakman wants a young, trendy coach.

“Mowbray is a safe pair of hands and solid. Players love him. Amad will sign for him. There is plenty of upside. But from what I’ve heard, it won’t take much for club to decide on a change.

“Think the pressure will now build on Mowbray, and reasonably so. The strikers never get chances. That’s not a striker issue, it’s a tactical one. And it’s not the only one.”

The striker issue is the most concerning as no matter who is played there, Sunderland still struggle and zero goals in 23 games by a striker is terrible.

Mowbray needs to improve but he deserves time

For as bad as recent weeks have been, Mowbray has an incredibly young squad and that along is reason to give him time.

Young players will always be less consistent than senior professionals, and therefore harder to win games with.

Mowbray if he is to succeed firstly needs to change the system and then recruit some experience to help the youngster throughout the rest of this season.

If he doesn’t see improvements soon though, it is hard to see Sunderland chiefs not acting before January, especially with Speakman keen on a younger boss.
