Sunderland handed ‘damning’ verdict

Sunderland were unable to bounce back from their recent defeats. Two defeats against Huddersfield and Birmingham saw Michael Beale sacked

However, as they returned to the Stadium of Light, they were unable to end their losing streak as Swansea defeated them 2-1.

As a result, many criticised the performance, including journalist James Hunter who claimed the club looked like a ‘bottom-half’ side.

Another man who was highly unhappy with the performance was Mike Dodds. Dodds has become Sunderland’s interim manager until the end of the season after Beale’s sacking.

After the game, he called the performance ‘unacceptable’ as he looked to pull the Black Cats back into the playoffs.

With Sunderland producing contrasting displays in the first and second half, Dodds also questioned the mentality of the group.

Sunderland had many of their stars unavailable against Swansea. Dan Ballard was suspended while Jack Clarke picked up an injury prior to the match.

As a result, Dodds changed the team up with three centre-backs starting. However, this did not benefit the side or Seelt.

Journalist James Copley highlighted how poor Sunderland’s defence looked against Swansea. He commented that Seelt looked like a ‘rabbit in the headlights’ in the first half.
