Despite having the home advantage at the Stadium of Light, many failed to perform as Sunderland fell to 10 points off the playoff positions in 11th.

While the defeat to Leicester certainly didn’t set the world alight, many would argue that Sunderland should have gotten something from the game through one incident.

As Ballard was played into the box, he was brought down by a Leicester player. However, the referee Sunny Gill did not award a penalty.

One journalist was amazed that the referee did not give it, believing he ‘bottled it’. The penalty certainly would have given Sunderland a chance to end their losing streak.
