Sunderland are ‘definitely’ keen on a move for this former Liverpool man, who’s valued at £2.1million this summer.

Sunderland are working hard to add to their two summer signings so far, with Simon Moore and Alan Browne the only names to have arrived on Wearside this summer.

But it looks like sporting director Kristjaan Speakman is closing in on a much-needed and exciting striker signing, with Alexandre Mendy reportedly undergoing a Sunderland medical.

Head coach Regis Le Bris will surely be relieved to get a new striker over the line, following what’s been a very arduous and prolonged search for a new no.9 at the Stadium of Light.

Speakman though will have an eye on other potential attacking additions this summer, with key duo Jack Clarke and Jobe Bellingham having suitors; Ipswich Town are plotting an £18m bid for Clarke, it’s been reported.

And one potential name who could arrive at Sunderland to soften the blow of Clarke’s potential departure is Liam Millar.

Sunderland ‘definitely like’ former Liverpool man Liam Millar

Sunderland have been linked with Millar throughout this summer’s transfer window, with earlier reports stating that Millar is valued at £2.1million by current club Basel.

Millar, 24, spent last season on loan with Preston North End in the Championship, with the left-winger scoring five and assisting five in 35 league outings.

Earlier in the month, it was reported that Sheffield United agreed a deal to sign Millar, with Leeds United also admirers of the Liverpool academy graduate.

Journalist Michael Graham has now confirmed that Millar is also a definite transfer target for Sunderland this summer.

Where Sunderland stand in the race to sign Liam Millar

Millar has just concluded his Copa America tournament with Canada, and so we can expect to see interest in signing him start to heat up.

Having had a long season with Preston and no real break this summer, anyone signing Millar may not expect to have him fully rested and then match-sharp again until after the season has started.

For Sunderland, the possible signing of Millar may depend on if, or rather when Clarke leaves this summer.

Romaine Mundle and Nazariy Rusyn will be expected to step up at Sunderland should Clarke leave this summer, which may suggest that a new winger isn’t a priority.

But as per Graham, Millar is a definite target for Speakman, though the asking price may be the big sticking point here.

With many teams also in the race for his signature, it could quickly become an auction, and an expensive one too.
