Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris has been compared to a Premier League legend after his first press conference at the club.
Regis Le Bris gave his first Sunderland press conference on Wednesday, in which he discussed a number of topics.
The 48-year-old Frenchman gave his verdict on transfers, where he stated his acknowledgement of the fact that Sunderland desperately need to sign a striker this summer.
Le Bris also discussed his working relationship with sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, and how they’ll work together in the transfer market, with Le Bris also stating his admiration for Sunderland fans.
Following his Lorient departure, Le Bris met Sunderland fans at the launch of the 2024/25 home shirt recently.
Sunderland fans and pundits alike were let very impressed by Le Bris after his first press conference; he spoke well and laughed and joked too, and he’s now earned comparisons to a legendary former Premier League manager.

Regis Le Bris compared to Arsene Wenger after first Sunderland press conference
Le Bris discussed his playing style and philosophy during the press conference, coming across as a very tactical and thoughtful coach in that respect.
He arrives as something of an unknown quantity having never managed in England and having only been a manager for two seasons prior to his arrival at the Stadium of Light.
But journalist Phil Smith believes Le Bris reminded him of Arsenal’s former French manager Arsene Wenger, in that Le Bris came across as a very intelligent and philosophical manager.
Smith said on On The Whistle: “It’s a lazy comparison, but it’s an obvious one; Arsene Wenger definitely came to mind.
“He’s very thoughtful, you can tell he’s a deep thinker, very methodical.
“I think the main thing I got was, I think he’s going to sound the same after wins and defeats. I think he’s going to be very detailed tactically.”

One thing will hold Regis Le Bris in good stead at Sunderland
Sunderland have been at a crossroads this summer; changing manager and looking set to see some changes to the playing squad too.
There could be some big name departures at Sunderland this summer and some widespread changes to the first-team squad and also the coaching staff, so Sunderland will certainly look very different to how they did at the end of last season.
But Le Bris’ calm demeanour and apparent level-head will hold the club in good stead during this period of transition.
It’ll also be good for the club’s younger players to have an experienced youth coach in place going forward; Le Bris was a youth coach for almost two decades before becoming Lorient manager.
So there’s a lot to suggest that Le Bris has the mentality to succeed in English football, like Wenger had with his ability to think deeply about tactics and to ingrain a certain philosophy.
Now, Speakman has to give Le Bris the tools to succeed.
