Sunderland have became a club synonymous with youth, and their latest announcement is no different as they have revealed nine new academy graduates.
The Black Cats have became a club committed to prioritising youth. From the loan of Amad Diallo last season, to the acquisition of Jobe Bellingham this summer.
Sunderland are a club young players know they will be given a chance with. So, following the announcement of the club’s 2023-24 scholars, here is everything you need to know.
Who are Sunderland’s nine academy scholar graduates?
While these youngster won’t be making an immediate impression on the first-team, it is always encouraging to see so many prospects signed up.
Sunderland released a statement saying, “Nine players have put pen to paper on a two-year scholarship deal to form part of Adam Asghar’s side for the upcoming Under-18 Premier League season.”
Along with this current, academy manager Robin Nicholls said, “Although they have a long way to go, we are excited by the potential that the group have displayed both collectively and individually over several seasons now.”
“They have regularly been one of the most exciting Academy teams to watch and several have been recognised through selection for youth international squads.”

Aaron Chung – Winger
Ben Kindon – Defender
Ben Metcalf – Goalkeeper
Chris Rigg – Midfielder
Dan Parker – Defender
Jaydon Jones – Midfielder
Jack Whittaker – Midfielder
Matty Young – Goalkeeper
Trey Ogunsuyi – Striker
This announcement follows last month’s reveal that nine of the current u18’s had signed professional contracts.
These being Ethan Moore, Henry Fieldson, Joe Ryder, Harrison Jones, Oliver Bainbridge, Marshall Burke, Ben Middlemas, Michael Spellman and Harry Gardiner.
