Sunderland are seemingly closing in on their first signing of the January transfer window in Enzo Le Fee, and Roma fans have been discussing the player’s credentials.

Regis Le Bris and the Sunderland hierarchy have wasted no time in looking to improve the squad this month as they aim to keep up the Black Cats’ surprise promotion charge.

The latest transfer news out of Sunderland suggests a loan move for Enzo Le Fee is all but completed, and the idea of the Roma man heading to Wearside has got fans very excited.

But, while many have suggested this would be a huge coup for Sunderland, Roma fans are not convinced that losing Le Fee is that big of a deal.

Roma fans are not convinced on Enzo Le fee

Taking to Twitter/X, Roma fans were naturally abuzz with talk of Le Fee and what kind of impact it will have on the Serie A side to let the Frenchman go, and what kind of player might be joining the Sunderland squad soon.

Giallorossi Galles waxed lyrical about the midfielder, writing: “He does absolutely nothing wrong, performs well under three different coaches, and now on his way out to the Championship. Mark my words, he would grow into a fantastic player.”

However, among the replies, there are actually very few Roma fans who seem to agree with that sentiment, with many claiming the Sunderland-bound star has been a disappointment at the Stadio Olimpico.

One fan said, “Done nothing for me and has been injured.. and going to a Championship club is showing his levels,” while another added, “He had a promising start but has been mediocre at best since he came back from injury.”

Some even suggested that Le Fee’s imminent departure says a lot about his desire to play for the club, writing: “He didn’t perform well and also is not that big deal of a player so far. If he leaves it’s also because he doesn’t want to stay and fight for a spot in the squad.”

It wasn’t all negative, though. One fan blamed a lack of game time for restricting Le Fee’s potential, posting: “He was incredible in the pre-season and has been good every time he has played. But he can’t find his form if he only played one game and is then benched for eight games.”

Another said, “I’m still hoping he remains and gets playing time, he’s shown good things on the pitch,” while one fan admitted, “He doesn’t get much playing time, can’t blame him for wanting out.”

Still, if you asked French fans about the 24-year-old, you’d probably get a better reaction. Le Fee was one of the top Ligue 1 players when it came to key passes, among other stats, in the 2022-23 season.

Enzo Le Fee will have to adapt and impress quickly at Sunderland

Regardless of what some sections of the Roma fanbase are saying, there can be no denying that Le Fee is a top player who will surely be a great addition to Le Bris’ team.

How Le Fee will fit into the Sunderland midfield exactly, is another matter. But, with the likes of Dan Neil, Jobe Bellingham, and Chris Rigg in there already, the Black Cats will end up with incredible strength in depth.

The only issue for Le Fee really will be how quickly he can settle in with his new teammates and in his new surroundings, in a very different style of play to what he is used to.

If he can adjust to English football effectively, Sunderland will have bagged one of the best midfielders in the Championship.
