Trai Hume has explained the message that Regis Le Bris ‘keeps’ giving the Sunderland squad.
The Black Cats picked up their fourth successive win of the campaign at the weekend, claiming a convincing three points against Portsmouth.
Sunderland have now only conceded one goal – an unfortunate own goal by Luke O’Nien at Fratton Park – while they have scored ten of their own.
The Wearside outfit sit top of the Championship table and are the only team to win all four fixtures so far, with West Brom two points behind them.
It’s looking like a very promising start for Le Bris‘ side and it came as no surprise to hear fans singing about the Premier League at the end of the clash with Pompey over the weekend.
However, Le Bris has urged his players not to get too carried away and to ‘stay consistent’.

Sunderland can’t let their concentration slip
Hume has shared what the Frenchman has told the squad recently, telling the Sunderland Echo: “We’re on the front foot and being aggressive, trying to win games. You can see that even at 2-0 up, we’re looking for more goals.
” It’s nice to start well but we know that it’s a long season and it’s about staying consistent in our performances. We want to try and go for promotion but we’re just trying to focus on keeping it from game to game and that’s what the manager keeps telling us. It’s always ‘next game, game’ – not looking too far ahead.
“We want to keep improving because we still think there’s parts of the games where we could play better. We can keep improving. It’s an ideal start, obviously, but we want to stay consistent.”
Every Championship club endures a sticky patch
Sunderland are making history with their brilliant start to the Championship campaign and fans certainly weren’t expecting it.
At the moment, they are heading into games just assuming that there will be an extra three points in the bag at the end.
However, while Le Bris seems to be a bit of a tactical genius, there is no doubt that Sunderland will have a rough patch just like everyone else does.
The Black Cats are a few injuries away from a dip in form and supporters know how unlucky this club gets with injuries.
Sunderland surely aren’t going to keep up this brilliant form all season and they need to be prepared to recover when it does start to go south.
A dip in form definitely doesn’t mean they can’t pick it back up again and it will be interesting to see how Le Bris handles that.
But for now, winning games is his plan and he is executing it to perfection.
