Regis Le Bris gives Sunderland two obscure areas they can ‘manage in a better way’ ahead of Norwich

The current Sunderland squad have been given two specific areas that must be improved ahead of Norwich.

Sunderland are set to host Norwich City this weekend at the Stadium of Light, where Regis Le Bris’ side will be hoping to make it seven points in their last three home Championship clashes.

The Black Cats have seen improvement in recent weeks ever since their period of six games without a win, however, Le Bris has still bookmarked areas in which his side must improve following their previous games.

Many might suggest that Sunderland have been lacking that extra bite in attack, or they have perhaps lacked creativity out wide ever since the injuries dealt to Romaine Mundle and Tommy Watson, but not many could have predicted what Le Bris had noticed about his side.

Sunderland told to improve set pieces by Regis Le Bris

The Black Cats at times this season have been flawless, particularly when playing at the Stadium of Light, however, Le Bris is still not fully satisfied with his side.

He has highlighted exactly where his side must improve, and it will take many fans by surprise. In his pre-match press conference, he said: “Our only focus is on our process, our game and the way we can manage different situations.

“This week was very important to reinforce our foundations, to say we are very good here and here we need to improve. For example, offensive set pieces and throw-ins, we can manage in a better way.”

Per WhoScored, Sunderland have managed just five goals from set-pieces in the 2024/25 Championship campaign so far, the 13th most in the league.

Perfectionist approach by Regis Le Bris will help iron out creases in current squad

There have already been vast improvements from the last season, with Le Bris really steering the ship away from the rocks that was initially led by Michael Beale and Mike Dodds.

Mentality, for example, was a key area that was a prominent issue in Wearside for the players, but he has turned that around in some style, as well as the issues in the attacking third.

It is great to see that Le Bris is continuing to push his side to their limits by picking on the more minor details of improvement, showing that the Frenchman is serious about a potential promotion push this season.

Whilst the issues outlined by Le Bris are by no means key and prominent, it shows just how much he looks to push his side, and that will no doubt benefit the squad for the rest of the campaign.
