Sunderland under Regis Le Bris continue to impress, with the Black Cats still 1st in the table.
Sunderland weren’t at their best in the last outing against Hull City. But a 1-0 win in a game where they’re not at full speed is certainly the sign of a title contender.
Wilson Isidor scored a controversial goal for Sunderland who claimed the narrow win at the MKM Stadium, keeping them in 1st place of the Championship table.
Manager Regis Le Bris continue to earn plaudits following this whirlwind start to the new season.
He’s got a Black Cats side that slumped to a 16th place finish last season, now firing and playing as a unit, with several individuals having looked really impressive so far this season.
Up next is a trip to Luton Town. It’s a repeat of the 2022/23 Championship play-off semi-finals which the Hatters won, on their way to earning promotion to the Premier League.

Regis Le Bris could end 17-year wait for Sunderland win at Luton Town
Sunderland memorably beat Luton Town in the first leg of their Championship play-off semi-final in 2023, winning 2-1 at the Stadium of Light thanks to goals from Amad Diallo and Trai Hume.
The Black Cats lost the reverse fixture at Kenilworth Road 2-0. The two teams have only met 11 times since 2000 with the Hatters having been in the National League whilst the Black Cats were in the Premier League little over 10 years ago.
But Sunderland haven’t won a game at Kenilworth Road since the final day of the 2006/07 season.
That season, Roy Keane guided Sunderland to promotion from the Championship, clinching the second tier title with a 5-0 win against Luton.
The goals came from Anthon Stoke, Ross Wallace, David Connolly, and two from Daryl Murphy.

What is Sunderland’s biggest-ever away win?
During the 2002/03 season, Sunderland thumped Cambridge United away from home in the League Cup, making history as their biggest-ever away win.
The 5-0 win at Luton Town in 2007 is one of three 5-0 wins that Sunderland have picked up on the road, with it being the club’s joint-fourth biggest win on the road.
Sunderland claimed 6-0 wins at Liverpool and Spurs during the first half of the 20th Century, as well as a 6-1 win at Bristol City in the old Rumbelows Cup, and another 6-1 win in a first division game against Wolves during the 1930s.
The other two 5-0 away wins came against Walsall in the 1999/00 League Cup and against Derby County in the Premier League during the same season.
