A promising set of statistics points towards a straightforward victory for Sunderland in their home game against Plymouth.

The Black Cats return to the Stadium of Light on Sunday as they prepare to host Championship newcomers Plymouth.

Michael Beale’s side will be looking to return to winning ways and make their way back into the play-offs. Sunderland picked up a solid point last time out as they drew 1-1 with local rivals Middlesbrough. However, this Saturday, they will be looking to take all three points against Plymouth.

In the build-up to the game, things have looked good for the Black Cats. Beale has received positive news on the injury front this week as he drops hints about Romaine Mundle.

Now fans have received a bigger indicator that Sunderland will be taking home all three points on Saturday, as a promising statistic has emerged ahead of the clash.

It is no secret that Plymouth has been on form over recent months. The club has only lost one of their last nine league games and Morgan Whittaker has just won Player of the Month for January.

While this may be a grim reading for Sunderland fans there is a few statistics that indicate why Beale will win all three points.

SAFC Data Analytics pointed out on X (formerly Twitter) that despite Plymouth’s good recent form, they have a flaw. The Pilgrims’ last five defeats came against teams in the top seven. On top of this, they have also only won one game in their last 15 away from home.

From this everything indicates that Sunderland should at least be getting a point from the fixture but, realistically should be aiming for all three.

Since Beale came into the role as manager of Sunderland he has not had the smoothest of rides. Despite only being one point off the top six many fans have stated their displeasure with his appointment.

A comfortable win against Plymouth would help settle the nerves of the doubters, especially if it sends them into the play-off places.

These statistics only back this notion further, with three points undoubtedly needing to be the aim for Beale on Saturday.

From here, he could help put a run of form together with a kinder set of fixtures on the horizon after the Plymouth match.
