One player for Sunderland to buy and sell in January

It has been a good start to the season for Sunderland, with that being said who could come in or be sold in January to improve?

As we have reached the October international break, the Black Cats find themselves in fourth place, which sounds great.

But looking further at the table shows how different things could be and how quickly they could change.

Just three points separate Tony Mowbray’s side in fourth and West Bromwich Albion in eleventh place. Any slip-ups could see a drop down the league.

With that being said what transfers could be done in January to help secure a playoff place this season?

Sell- Jack Clarke

Okay, okay, I know this sounds a bit crazy. Selling your top scorer and arguably the best performer in the team this season. Hear me out.

There are heavy rumours linking Clarke to Burnley and Brentford this week, with a fee of £15-20 million said to be enough.

With that kind of fee being banded about, it feels like Mowbray and Co. can’t turn that sort of money down.

A replacement would have to be ready-made and guaranteed to score goals but it just feels like this move is going to happen.

Buy- Amad Diallo

An obvious choice, but Amad is obvious for a reason. Last season he was different class and if it wasn’t for injury would probably be playing for Manchester United weekly.

It is possible that the Black Cats could take advantage of his injury situation and step in to bring the Ivorian back.

Considering the fee United paid for him, a permanent fee is unlikely straight up. Another loan and try to find a way around an option to buy, he could be amazing again.

Losing Clarke would hurt Sunderland fans but bringing back Amad would definitely cover those wounds for sure.
