Michael Graham has been left amazed by one moment in Sunderland’s win vs Middlesbrough.

The Black Cats managed to respond in brilliant fashion to last week’s defeat to Plymouth Argyle as they saw off noisy-neighbours Middlesbrough at the Stadium of Light in the Championship.

Regis Le Bris’ side was incredibly compact defensively as they managed to keep a clean sheet against a Middlesbrough side that certainly had their fair share of possession.

Sunderland were often on the back front, but Le Bris’ side were more than happy to soak in the pressure and look to hit the visitors on the counter with a quick attack.

This happened for the full 90 minutes, and despite a late onslaught from the away side at the end of the game, Sunderland held out and won all three points.

The decisive moment of the game saw Chris Rigg back yet another goal for the Black Cats, with him delivering an astonishing finish past Middlesbrough shot-stopper Seny Dieng.

The goal from the 17-year-old has left many stunned, including Michael Graham, who has delivered his verdict on the spectacular finish.

Michael Graham delivers verdict on Chris Rigg Sunderland goal

Just like many Sunderland fans that witnessed the emphatic moment of Rigg putting Sunderland ahead, Graham has dropped his feelings on such a brilliant moment for the youngster.

Per X, Graham wrote: “The audacity.”

The beauty of the goal was without a doubt the cheek for the 17-year-old to even attempt to pull off such a tricky finish with a back-heel, and to do so in such a composed fashion is an absolutely incredible fate for Rigg, and there are no doubts that he is continuing to shine at the Stadium of Light as Sunderlabd’s brightest prospect.

Chris Rigg is already building his reputation as Sunderland’s top player

With 99% of cases involving youngsters getting handed game time in the first team, it is always the rhetoric of not overloading them with pressure or overconfidence, as pressure can break the players at such a young age.

However, Rigg at this point is without a doubt one of the key players in Le Bris’ side, and it has come to the point where the 17-year-old is quintessentially important for Sunderland this season, and his impact will be felt if he wasn’t involved in any fashion later on down the line.

He has been given raving reviews ever since he was handed his debut with the Black Cats, and it has shown his mentality to be exquisite at this age, and there are no doubts over the impact he can make when it matters most.
