Sunderland travel to Preston North End in the Championship on Wednesday night, in a battle between two teams at opposite ends of the table right now.

Going into the Wednesday fixtures in the Championship, Sunderland sit in 1st place of the Championship table on 29 points, and Preston North End in 21st, on 14.

The two teams have had very differing seasons so far. But it was Preston who dealt Sunderland their first defeat of the Regis Le Bris era in the Carabao Cup back in August.

The Lilywhites, managed by previous Sunderland manager target Paul Heckingbottom, have won just one of their last five in the league and lost 3-1 against Bristol City last time out.

Sunderland drew 0-0 against QPR at Loftus Road, ending a run of three-straight wins for the Black Cats.

Sam Parkin shares Preston North End vs Sunderland score prediction

Speaking on the Championship Check In podcast ahead of the game at Deepdale on Wednesday night, EFL pundit Sam Parkin gave his score prediction.

And he’s backed Preston to ‘frustrate’ Sunderland once again, but not to claim all three points.

Parkin said: “I’m going for lightning to strike twice. I’m not going for the 0-0… I’m going to go for Preston to get a point here. I’ll go for a 1-1.

“I think they had plenty of attempts the other day, against Bristol City. As I said, Bristol City were incredibly clinical.

“But I think they’re going to be competitive in this type of game, Preston, and maybe fancy them to frustrate Sunderland.”

Did Sam Parkin predict QPR vs Sunderland correctly?

Parkin got his QPR and Sunderland score prediction exactly right, predicting a 0-0 ahead of the game.

He said before that game: “It’s really difficult, because everything points towards a Sunderland win, but it’s got to stop [at some point].”

Preston North End vs Sunderland H2H

Preston claimed a 2-0 win over Sunderland in the Carabao Cup back in August. And last season, Preston won their Championship clash at Deepdale 2-1, whilst Sunderland won 2-0 at the Stadium of Light.

That win on New Year’s day ended a 20-year wait for a Sunderland win at Deepdale. During that time, the two teams met nine times, with Preston winning six and the Black Cats just one.

The game kicks off at 8pm on Wednesday night and will be shown live on Sky Sports.
