Sunderland’s biggest weakness was on show against Leicester as they failed to convert numerous chances to score.
The game against Leicester was evenly poised and it is hard to imagine that with a more clinical number nine, the Black Cats still would’ve lost.
So far this season Mason Burstow has been deployed up front but he’s been struggling and has yet to score.
Zero goals in eight games for the Black Cats and just a solitary assist contributed he is the weak link in the team currently.
Last night against Leicester, Burstow got the lowest rating in the team as he looked invisible. It doesn’t seem like he fits into the team and doesn’t benefit from or to the team and has been slammed after the game.

Sunderland need a striker – Burstow not enough
Sunderland journalist Scott Wilson has highlighted the Black Cats need for a striker on his X account.
“Moving forward if Sunderland are going to keep challenging the top end of the table, they need a striker who is going to start hitting the back of the net.”
Sunderland’s reliance on the likes of Jack Clarke for goals has became exposed in recent weeks.
As his form dryed up, so has Sunderland’s in which a top-class number nine could be a saviour.
Who could Sunderland bring in?
Sunderland brought Burstow in from Chelsea on loan in the summer in a deal which they likely believed would have a similar impact to Amad Diallo.
However, Burstow has been poor, but we still think loaning is the best option ahead of potential January improvements.
One wildcard move we are fans of is Aston Villa’s 18-year-old Omari Kellyman who could play across the front line and in midfield.
Kellyman isn’t a natural striker but has an eye for goal as shown for Villa this season according to TransferMarkt.
Kellyman has four goals in three PL 2 appearances, he also has one goal in one EFL Trophy appearance. Along with this he has assisted in a Europa Conference League qualifier.
