Jewison Bennette has slammed Greek club Aris following his underwhelming loan spell away from Sunderland.
Jewison Bennette joined Sunderland from Costa Rican outfit Herediano in 2022 and made a promising start to life in England, making 15 appearances in his first campaign.
However, the winger quickly fell down the pecking order and managed only nine minutes of action this season, before he was sent out on loan.
Things didn’t get any better for Bennette though, and he managed only two appearances in the Greek Super League.
He then suffered an injury, but seemed to have already fallen out of favour in Thessaloniki.
Bennette has now criticised Aris for being ‘irresponsible’ and admitted that he regrets moving to Greece.
Jewison Bennette made a ‘bad decision’
Speaking to teletica.com, the 19-year-old said: “I made bad decisions and I rushed.
“”It was a rather complicated year, I made bad decisions, going to a club that breached my contract anyway. My agent recommended me to go there, he told me not to talk to anyone, it was a bad decision I made, but it’s learning.
“When I arrived at the Aris I played two games and after that they had to pay me the salary, the house and the car, I complained to Sunderland and they were annoyed by that, then they started to push me aside and left me off the list, in the end I had a small injury that they left me out of the La Sele games.

“I had to take out of my savings to pay for my expenses, house and car there, they are irresponsible.
“It was a mission of minutes, I made a bad decision and I have to learn, not make hasty decisions and now concentrate on my team to give my best.
“A loan would be a league that is very strict on the issue of salaries, that there are no arrears, in Greece there are salary arrears, the others have a big career, but one who is young is saving, I have projects.”
Time is running out for Bennette at Sunderland
Jewison Bennette has already suffered a few injuries since joining Sunderland and it makes it a lot harder to back him to succeed.
The teenager showed glimpses of promise in his first campaign at the club, but he still seems so far away from ever establishing himself as a regular.
It seems extremely unlikely that he has settled in here either, and that is probably why the Black Cats should have sent him out on loan in the UK, so he could adapt further and learn the language – but now it feels more like he has taken a step backwards.
There is no doubt that he will need to be sent back out on loan again this summer, while it feels like a make-or-break season for the Costa Rica international. If it fails again, then he could well be on his way out permanently.
