Jenson Seelt has explained what has made him really ‘happy’ since joining Sunderland.

Speaking to Dutch newspaper Eindhovens Dagblad, the defender admitted that he had made a ‘fantastic’ choice in moving to Wearside.

Jenson Seelt joined PSV’s academy in 2017 and went onto make his senior debut in May 2022. The youngster was a regular for Jong PSV, scoring four goals in 33 games last season as they finished eighth in the second division.

Seelt arrived in Sunderland over the summer and made his first start for the club in the 3-1 win over Birmingham City.

While the centre-back has only managed three appearances for the Black Cats, he is clearly really enjoying his time in England and has explained what ‘impressed’ him when Sunderland made their interest known.

“The people are sweet here, caring. I have always felt part of the team, you are involved in everything,” Seelt said.

“I think Sunderland is a fantastic choice and I am happy in this environment. Of course I am grateful to PSV for my training, but I needed this step now.

“They had been following me for more than a year and a half and especially after our Premier League International Cup games they pushed for a transfer. I was quite impressed that they had portrayed me so well.

“Sunderland has ambitions to return to the highest level and also wanted to attract young players to enable further growth. They thought I had played well with PSV against the British promises and that is why I received a nice offer. So you can see that you can also play in the international matches of Jong PSV on the radar of clubs.”

Can Jenson Seelt earn himself a regular spot for Sunderland?

Jenson Seelt has a lot to do force his way into Sunderland’s starting line-up on a regular basis, but he has certainly shown plenty of promise so far.

The Dutchman completed the most accurate passes against Birimingham (52) and had the highest pass success out of any starting player (93%).

At only 20 years old, Seelt has plenty of time to improve and adapt to life in England and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him challenge Luke O’Nien for a spot in the team next season.

The youngster is certainly the more likely to make an impact between himself and Nectarios Triantis, but I’m sure we can expect to see the pair a lot more often after a fairly successful start last time out.
