The Black Cats currently sit fourth in the table and have had a very positive start to the season.

Under Tony Mowbray, the reliance on young talent has been clear for all to see. It has also been very effective so far.

With a transfer focus on bringing in younger players from various leagues, some lesser-known players have made a name for themselves.

Topping the youth charts

In a list published by Not The Top 20 Pod, Sunderland have ranked first among Championship teams with the lowest average age.

Ranking above sides currently famed for their youth such as Leeds United, goes to show how well Kristjaan Speakman is doing.

With a large selection of young players at Mowbray’s disposal, he has also done a great job to bed them all in successfully.

Players like Jobe Bellingham, Adil Aouchiche and Luis Hemir all came in over the summer going to show the ideology at the club right now.

There are also homegrown talents like Dan Neil, Anthony Patterson and Chris Rigg who have come through the academy to supplement the additions.
