Sunderland’s Jack Clarke has been named the EFL Championship Player of the Month for September after scoring six goals in five games.
Jack Clarke‘s ‘dazzling’ form secured himself a first individual honour of the season as he was named the EFL Championship‘s Player of the Month for September.
The 22-year-old couldn’t contain his excitement but also gave credit to his team, saying: “I’m delighted to receive this award, but for me it’s a reflection on how well the team did in September.”
Not content yet, Clarke praised the team and manager but insisted he is aiming for more: “I was fortunate enough to be on the end of some great moves. We have a good understanding as a group and the Head Coach gives me the freedom to express myself – we’ll try to build on a solid start.”
Six goals in five games for Clarke which came against Blackburn twice, Sheffield Wednesday twice, QPR and Southampton in September, with only Cardiff escaping his scoring touch.
Clarke’s rise in form has coincided with Sunderland’s rise up the table. Currently in the playoffs, the Black Cats look primed to outdo themselves this season under Tony Mowbray.

Mowbray has reacted to Clarke being named player of the month.
He said: “Jack is an outstanding footballer who had a great month in September. He’s full of confidence at the moment and I’m delighted for him.
“His career is on the up and his challenge now is to keep it going.”
Don Goodman reacts
Sky Sports’ EFL pundit Don Goodman also had his say on Clarke winning the coveted award.
“Jack Clarke continued his dazzling form in September, scoring six goals in five games on a run that saw Sunderland climb into the playoff positions.
“He did so in style too, showcasing delightful footwork and close control in his goals at Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday.”
