David Prutton shares surprise Millwall vs Sunderland prediction amid ‘brilliant’ Regis Le Bris verdict

Sunderland are sitting at the top of the Championship table right now, but that could all change if they don’t get a positive result against Millwall this weekend.

Regis Le Bris has come in as Sunderland manager this summer and is working wonders with the Black Cats, getting big results and playing some brilliant football in the process.

With one-third of the campaign gone, Sunderland find themselves at the top of the tree, but Sheffield United are right behind them on goal difference, and as always, the Championship table is so tight it could flip on its head very quickly.

As it stands, Sunderland are genuine title contenders, but they will have to grind out a result against Millwall on Saturday, and that is a lot more difficult than it sounds.

David Prutton thinks Millwall can beat Sunderland this weekend

Discussing the weekend’s fixtures in the Championship on the Essential EFL podcast for Sky Sports, David Prutton delivered a shocking verdict on Sunderland’s upcoming game, as he predicts the wheels will come off at The Den.

When asked for his scoreline prediction, Prutton said: “I’m going to go for… you know what, Millwall to win this 1-0.”

However, co-host Simeon Gholam did preface that call by reminding listeners how highly the show rates Regis Le Bris and the job he is doing at the Stadium of Light.

“Regis Le Bris was our manager of the season so far,” Gholam said. “Sunderland have been a brilliant collective this season.”

Defeat at Millwall would be a major blow to Sunderland progress

Sunderland go into the game unbeaten in eight games, and have only lost two all season. It would be a big surprise for them to lose this one against Millwall.

That said, their two defeats this season have come away from home, against Plymouth Argyle and Watford. With the Stadium of Light being something of a fortress for Sunderland, you would imagine it’s away games where they will come unstuck if at all.

Add to that Millwall’s record against Sunderland — the Lions have lost just one of their last seven against the North East outfit — and it’s clear that Le Bris will need his men to be at their absolute best this weekend.

Le Bris’ side have got a pretty tough run of fixtures heading into December, with games against Sheffield United, West Bromwich Albion, Bristol City, Norwich City, and Blackburn Rovers all on the horizon.

The Millwall game presents Le Bris with some big selection decisions to make, but if he gets those right, and his players can remain calm and composed in a hostile environment down in London, he could secure a really important win that’ll carry the Black Cats into the next few matches.
