Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg has looked ahead to the clash with Norwich City, noting one area where his side are ‘unbelievable’ in.

Sunderland face an away trip to Norwich City on Tuesday night, where they will hope to make it three wins on the spin.

Last time out, Sunderland notched a victory against West Brom, a scrappy affair that saw Trai Hume’s free-kick goal be the decisive moment that edged Regis Le Bris’ side ahead.

Whilst the West Brom clash brought up its own challenges, with the Sunderland defence having to be resolute as Tony Mowbray’s side directed 27 shots the way of Anthony Patterson’s goal, the difficulties of a Tuesday night at Carrow Road following a 250 mile trip from the Stadium of Light could no doubt be an issue, but Chris Rigg has noted one thing that will get them through the tie.

Sunderland gem Chris Rigg praises the ‘unbelievable’ mentality of the side as they await Norwich City

Sunderland midfielder Rigg was asked about the upcoming trip to Norwich City following the win at West Brom, to which he said: “I’ve said it before, there’s no easy game in this league. Obviously, we’re gonna have to travel a long way, but the mentality of the boys is unbelievable, so I think if we keep up the mentality we had today, we’ll be fine.”

The mentality that Rigg nods towards in reference to the West Brom game came primarily from their defensive efforts, which were praised by Mowbray as his side were unable to bag a single goal.

Chris Rigg shows maturity by leading the mentality claim

Lookig around the Sunderland ranks, the crop of players that Le Bris has at his disposal this season have been brilliant, and whilst much of this comes down to the brilliant work from Kristjaan Speakman and Co. off-the-pitch in regards to recruitment, much of this comes to the mentality that has been distilled into the players, something that, surprisingly, is being spearheaded by the academy graduates.

With Dan Neil as Sunderland team captain, he has clearly galvanised the troops, and that has been done with the help of Rigg, who, for an 18-year-old, shows so much maturity based on the fact that he places so much emphasis on the side getting their mentality spot on.

Aside from Rigg’s brilliant talents, he has the correct mindsight to back it up, something that will see him go far in his career.
