Sunderland defender Trai Hume has been hailed for what he did after full-time in Northern Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
Sunderland have several players out on international duty, both for senior and aged sides.
One man who has continued to be called up to his country is Northern Ireland star Trai Hume, who helped his side towards a decent draw against Switzerland on home soil.
Hume’s Northern Ireland side plucked away to grab a 1-1 draw, despite only having 19% possession and being up against the cosh for large quantities of the game, and the Sunderland full-back did exceptionally well to quash the threat of the Swiss winger Ruben Vargas, who the Black Cats man limited to zero shots.
As well as his top showing on the right flank, Hume was also praised for one thing he did after full-time at the Windsor Park stadium, something that led to Sunderland and Northern Ireland fans taking to social media.

Sunderland and Northern Ireland fans praise Trai Hume after international clash
Following the draw with Switzerland, Hume went over to the Northern Ireland supporters and posed with a young fan for a photo.
Following his good deed, Sunderland fans took to social media to praise the Black Cats man. One said that they ‘Love this fella. Hope he stops with Sunderland for a long time’, whilst another labeled him as the ‘best 200k signing ever’.
One Sunderland fan further expressed his love for the Northern Irish contingent in the Black Cats squad, saying that ‘we love him and Dan Ballard. Mackems at heart’, whilst another simply wrote ‘what a man’.
Northern Ireland fans also praised Hume, with one suggesting that he is ‘captain material’, whilst another made a bold call, saying that he ‘will become a superstar. Trai has everything’.
Trai Hume has the potential to be Black Cats and Northern Ireland ‘superstar’
It is brilliant to see, not just Sunderland fans take a shine to Hume, something we knew to already be the case, but also Northern Ireland supporters cherish the full-back that has been a crucial part of Regis Le Bris’ side this season.
Based on what we have seen of Hume throughout the 2024/25 campaign, there is no doubt that the 23-year-old has a high ceiling in terms of what he could reach in his career, and Wearside has proved to be the perfect place for him to thrive.
Providing that Sunderland keep hold of Hume next season, he can continue to be a huge asset at the club, and will no doubt continue to become a key player in the side.
