Sunderland are due a massive injury boost with the return of left-back Dennis Cirkin expected at the King Power Stadium.

Tony Mowbray’s injury woes are beginning to ease, and they could ease further tonight as the Black Cats head to league leaders Leicester.

Sunderland could seriously help their own promotion chances with a win at the King Power Stadium tonight.

Currently sixth after a defeat at the weekend, a win would potentially move Sunderland as high as third.

Mowbray’s side will be boosted with the return of Dennis Cirkin who should feature on the bench.

Mowbray confirms Cirkin return imminent

Dennis Cirkin played 45 minutes yesterday against Hibernian’s U21 side yesterday in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

This was his first appearance since the beginning of September after suffering a hamstring injury.

According to Chronicle Live, before the match Mowbray had admitted that if Cirkin did okay in the game, he could find himself on the bench for Leicester.

“Hopefully Dennis comes through it and then he can be on the bench tomorrow night because he is champing at the bit.”

Massive return – could reignite Sunderland’s form

After a brilliant run through September, the last few games have seen Sunderland take a step backwards.

Two losses in a row leaves Mowbray desperate for a win, having the returning Cirkin on the bench could be the boost needed to help do that.

While he won’t be starting, his presence will no doubt push Niall Huggins to perform to his highest level along with being an option in the second half should he be needed.

Cirkin is a vital player for Sunderland and his return will mean a return to form, even if that doesn’t come against Leicester today.
