Sunderland’s form has gone from bad to worse as they made it back-to-back defeats this evening.

The Black Cats hosted Huddersfield Town after enduring a poor 2-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle at the weekend, while they were looking for only their third win in eight matches.

Tony Mowbray had made three changes to the side that were beaten on the south coast, bringing in Adil Aouchiche, Eliezer Mayenda and Jenson Seelt.

The former two were expected to provide much more of an attacking threat after making a positive impact in the latter stages of the weekend’s game.

However, things didn’t go quite as planned at the Stadium of Light. While Luke O’Nien did grab a first-half equaliser, Sunderland’s possession didn’t add up to anything and their defensive frailties were eventually punished.

The Black Cats now sit eleventh in the Championship and four points from the top six, after losing eight of their 18 games so far.

The club’s recent form has been leading to some discussion over the future of Tony Mowbray, despite the 60-year-old only being awarded a contract extension earlier in the season.

The manager guided Sunderland to the play-offs in their first campaign back in the Championship, but appears to have struggled to find quite the same form this time round.

What are Sunderland fans saying?

Despite a hugely successful first season for Tony Mowbray at Sunderland, most fans on social media seem to be saying a similar thing.

The Black Cats have shown a lot of love for the former Blackburn manager and were left frustrated when the club were actively seeking his replacement before the play-off legs against Luton Town, however it now seems many consider it the right time for him to leave.
