Sunderland fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Plymouth Argyle in the Championship yesterday.

Sunderland made the long haul trip down to the south coast to face Plymouth Argyle in the Championship on Saturday.

But Tony Mowbray and the Sunderland fans were left disappointed after a 2-0 defeat, with the Black Cats now sitting in 9th place of the Championship table.

Sunderland have lost four of their last seven in the Championship and currently sit two points behind Preston North End in 6th.

Pierre Ekwah unimpressive in Sunderland defeat

There were a few poor individual performances yesterday, though midfielder Pierre Ekwah was among those to come under criticism.

The former West Ham man remains a favourite among the fans, but since making his return from injury last month, the 21-year-old hasn’t showcased the best form.

He often partners Dan Neil in front of the defence, but lately neither has impressed that much, with Ekwah’s performance yesterday coming under fairly widespread criticism from Sunderland fans online.

What’s been said?

A common theme is that Ekwah just hasn’t been as good since his injury.

He missed several weeks with an apparent dead leg sustained in the win over QPR back in September.

In the second half of last season he really started to impress and cement his place in the side, going into this season as one of the first names on the teamsheet.

He’s clearly a favourite of Mowbray’s who continues to show faith in him. But after another poor display, many Sunderland fans have called for a change to be made ahead of the next Championship clash vs Huddersfield Town.

Here’s what some Sunderland fans had to say on X about Ekwah’s performance vs Plymouth…
