Sunderland cruised to a 2-0 win over Luton Town on Wednesday night, and one player really caught Regis Le Bris’ attention, but not for the reason you might think.
In fairness, Luton made it easy for Sunderland on the night. A couple of scares aside, the Hatters rarely threatened the Black Cats and appeared to roll over as soon as Wilson Isidor doubled the home side’s lead in the second half.
But, credit to all the Sunderland players, who put up a professional and hard-working performance throughout to ensure they got all three points at the Stadium of Light.
For one Black Cats star, it was a night to remember. He got a great score in our Sunderland player ratings from the match, bagged a goal, and earned top praise from his manager, too.

Enzo Le Fee put in a huge shift out of possession vs Luton
Discussing the win via Sunderland’s official Twitter/X account after the game, Regis Le Bris singled out Enzo Le Fee for celebration, and while his goal will steal the headlines, the Black Cats boss was happier with a more underrated quality his player displayed.
Le Bris said: “He helps a lot. First of all, he’s really connected with the team. He’s really talented [and] that’s fine, it’s important, but at the same time, he’s a hard worker.
“He helps the team out of possession. He helps the team to play a better game and in the end, he scored. I think today it was really important to have one or two players able to make the difference.”
Indeed, Le Fee’s performance was built on far more than just the goal he scored. He registered 99 touches throughout the match (as per SofaScore), but out of possession, he also won ten duels and made four tackles across the 90 minutes.

Enzo Le Fee is a complete player already
Is there anything Enzo Le Fee can’t do? When he arrived at the club with so much hype around him, it was always going to be hard for the Frenchman to live up to those expectations, but somehow, he already is.
He’s clearly ‘too good’ for the Championship, and Sunderland are very lucky to have a player like Le Fee, who can dictate games and turn them on their head with a moment of magic.
It’s incredible that he’s doing all this while playing out of position on the left wing, too. Le Fee has been improving week by week at Sunderland, as he finds sharpness and gels with the players around him more.
What’s scary is, Le Bris thinks he will get even better as time goes on. And, of course, it will be fascinating to see how much of an influence Le Fee can have if and when he moves into a more central role. He’s already shown he’s got the vision, footballing intelligence, and skill to be a gamechanger, and that impact can only increase when he’s allowed to flourish in the number 10 role.
