Sunderland will look to make it three wins on the bounce as they travel to Ashton Gate this afternoon.

The Black Cats are still managerless after sacking Tony Mowbray 12 days ago, though interim coach Mike Dodds has so far done a brilliant job without him.

The team head into today’s match against Bristol City off the back of victories over Leeds United and West Brom, leaving them sixth in the Championship.

The Robins currently sit in 15th place and are without a win in their last four games, having endured a 2-1 defeat to Blackburn Rovers midweek.

Bristol City appointed Liam Manning as their manager at the start of November, but life hasn’t quite gone as planned so far. The side have since only picked up one win, as well as three defeats and two draws.

The hosts certainly aren’t helped by their packed out treatment room either, while Sunderland’s injury woes appear to be gradually decreasing.

Here is the latest injury news ahead of Bristol City vs Sunderland…

Bristol City

Nahki Wells is the only Bristol City player that could potentially make a return to action today.

The striker has been sidelined with an ankle injury for over two months, while Liam Manning has now admitted that Wells will be available ‘very soon’. Though it is unclear whether he will be fit in time to take on the Black Cats.

That’s where the good news ends for the Robins, with a further six players still out. Kal Naismith, Andy King and Ayman Benarous (hamstring), Haydon Roberts (ankle), Robin Atkinson (ACL) and Ross McCrorie (bacterial infection) will all miss out on today’s meeting..

Sunderland

Jenson Seelt is the only fresh injury concern after coming off with a minor hamstring problem against Leeds United. The Dutchman didn’t train on Thursday and is a doubt to start, but could still be included in the squad.

Dennis Cirkin has returned to training after missing 13 of the last 16 games with hamstring issues. However, today’s trip to Ashton Gate will come too soon for the defender.

Aji Alese, Elliott Embleton and Corry Evans remain long-term absentees, with the former on track to return to action sooner than the other pair. However, there has been no time frame placed on his recovery.

Jewison Bennette returned from international duty with an illness, before suffering an ankle knock that has kept him out of action since. The winger remains a doubt, though it is unclear when he will return.

Jay Matete and Timothee Pembele have both stepped up their recoveries and look to be on track for a return, with the pair both expected to feature for the U21s against Arsenal on Monday.
